Satya Nadella: Microsoft to Launch Only Six Lumia Smartphones a Year

Microsoft recently gave away pink slips to around 7,800 employees who were working under Microsoft mobile division. Also the companies CEO Satya Nadella mentioned that the Microsoft mobile portfolio will be streamlined into three categories. Business categories, Value phones, Flagships. Each category will a single/two launches a year making it total of six smartphones per year. Microsoft has already launched a bunch of smartphones this year those include Lumia 430, Lumia 640 and 640XL, Lumia 532 however, this does not mean we won’t see any new launches as the new announcement will take its action from now on under the new roadmap.

Microsoft must seriously consider launching strong flagship smartphone (rumored: Lumia 940) along with Windows 10 which is due for global release later this year. This immediate move might be an advantage for Microsoft to reduce the production cost and improve the profits.  Here’s a bonus tip, Rumored Lumia 940 flagship specifications, features a 5.2-inch 1080p display and a 25 MP PureView rear camera. The Lumia 940XL sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) display. These smartphones are expected to launch later this year.

Nadella in his mail: Today, we announced a fundamental restructuring of our phone business. As a result, the company will take an impairment charge of approximately $7.6 billion related to assets associated with the acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business in addition to a restructuring charge of approximately $750 million to $850 million.
