Microsoft badly a need a flagship device that will stand and face the competition and it’s been working for a long time now to come up with a flagship. The day has come, Microsoft has officially and finally announced the Lumia 950XL & Lumia 950 smartphones, smartphones that pack powerful internals and shows the world that Windows mobile is still alive. Ok! Let’s talk internals of Microsoft Lumia 950XL & 950 in detail.
Design: Let’s start with design, the smartphone looks exactly like what we have seen from the leaked images. It’s big when we say big it’s as big as Samsung’s Note 5 with 8.1mm thickness only if you care about the thickness. Up front, three on-screen navigation buttons, front camera, the usual set of sensors and Microsoft branding. The volume rockers are placed to the right side with Power On/Off button placed in the middle. The back is made of plastic which is removable.
Lumia 950 is more of a compact device with a smaller display. Dimensions 145 x 73.2 x 8.25 mm. Weighs just 150g. The design and look are exactly similar to Lumia 950XL.
Display: Lumia 950XL sports a 5.7-inches QHD(1440 by 2560) AMOLED display that is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The display accounts to a pixel density of 518PPI(pixels per inch)The glance screen is there like any other Microsoft mobile which will allow you to have a peek at your notifications. The ClearBlack technology will lower the reflective nature of the display outdoors.
Lumia 950 sports a smaller 5.2-inches QHD(1440 by 2560) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, the pixel counts jump to a whopping 564 PPI which is higher than the Lumia 950XL considering the compact display. Glance feature is also available on the Lumia 950.
Processor: The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810Soc clocked at 2.0GHz Octa-Core processor with Adreno 430 GPU. The processor is liquid cooled says the company eliminating the excessive heating. There is 3GB of Ram and 32GB internal storage with an SD card slot for memory expansion.
Lumia 950 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808Soc clocked at 1.8GHz Hexa-Core processor with Adreno 418GPU. There is 3GB of Ram and 32GB internal storage with an SD card slot for memory expansion.
OS and Features: Both Lumia 950XL and 950 runs on Windows 10 OS right out of the box meaning you will have all the new win 10 features like eDrive, Skype, Office, and Microsoft’s new Edge browser are baked into the experience. Though the Lumia 950XL doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor it takes advantage of the Microsoft’s Hello identification system which will identify the users face and unlocks without even pressing any button.
Camera: There is a 20-megapixel ZEISS optics PureView rear camera with triple tone LED flash, 5th generation optical image stabilization and a 5-megapixel front facing camera with 1080p video recording. Microsoft says the rear camera can provide quality images even in low-light conditions. Both Lumia 950XL and 950 feature same camera optics.
Connectivity-Battery: Connectivity features 4G LTE/3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C for the first time on a Microsoft device. There is a 3340mAh removable battery, wireless fast charging with flip cover. While the Lumia 950 features a low battery unit of 3,000mAh with fast charging and wireless fast charging with flip cover.
Pricing: This brings us to the last area of the smartphones specifications list. The Lumia 950XL is priced at $649, it comes in Black and White colors.
